Vermaelen & Arteta On AC Milan Defeat

by on February 16, 2012

Thomas Vermaelen and Mikel Arteta both spoke about Arsenal’s defeat to AC Milan in the last sixteen of the Champions League. The Gunners were defeated by the Serie A champions 4-0 at the San Siro yesterday evening in the first leg against the Italian league leaders. Vermaelen described yesterday’s match as a “bad evening” and said Arsenal owe something to the fans after their poor performance against AC Milan.

The Arsenal vice-captain said this to ArsenalPlayer after the match.

“We have another game and the only thing we can do is show our pride and give 100 per cent.”

“That is what we have to do.”

“We have to give something back to the fans who came all the way here, we disappointed them. The only thing we can do is try to get a good result in the home game.”

“The fans supported us all the way to Milan and we disappointed them, which is not good. We will try to give them something back when we next play at home. “

“It was not a good evening for us, they scored four times and we did not play well. It’s simple – we conceded too many chances and too many goals and it was just a bad evening.”

“They played well, they were aggressive – more than us I think and you can see that from the result. It’s difficult to give an explanation so soon after the game because I am disappointed. The result was really bad.”

“What happened, we have to forget now. We have to learn from it and just keep going to the next game.”

Mikel Arteta said it’s not completely over yet, the Spaniard said below that it’s very difficult for the Gunners to get through but not impossible. The former Everton midfielder said the pitch was “awful” but thy can’t use any excuses and that AC Milan ere the better side and deserved the win.

“Never say never in football,”

“If we score two goals in the first half at the Emirates then it is game on. After last night, it will be very difficult to get through and we all know that.”

“There is nothing we can do about the pitch. It was absolutely awful – you had no control at all. They are more used to it because they play here every week but I don’t think we need excuses. They were the better team and deserved to win. We go to London with a really disappointing result.”

“Everything became difficult after the first goal. They scored three goals on the counter-attack. It is difficult to take in and we have to change our mindset. We have another tough game on Saturday [at Sunderland in the FA Cup].”

  1. Arsene needs to wake up and see that project Wenger is a flop hence the board needs to force him to spend on some experience Ballers come Summer or fire him and get a younger more exciting Coach

There is only one Arsene Wenger… and I don’t think any of his critics can run a community team half as well as he does.

How many people that comment actually now what the job involves? How many of them have learnt lessons the hard way like a horrible 4-0 defeat and managed to walk out with useful experience?

It’s much easier being a pundit that a being half an Arsene Wenger.

His name is gold up there with the best and any fan who does not recognize what Arsene has done for Arsenal is unfair (or a Spud trying to cause a fuss in the Arsenal fan-base).

Wenger will be praised by gooners again… sooner than later inshallah.
