Reserves Win Impressively Against Wolves

by on February 14, 2012

Arsenal Reserves won their second successive Premier Reserve League match by defeating Wolves Reserves 3-0 at London Colney earlier today. England U-19’s midfielder Nico Yennaris opened the scoring for Neil Banfield’s side, then Oğuzhan Özyakup doubled Arsenal’s lead in the second-half. Özyakup became provider when his cross was headed in by Phillip Roberts seven minutes from time and it was Roberts’s first goal at reserve level.

Reserve team captain Ignasi Miquel returned for Neil Banfield’s side and partnered first-team defender Sébastien Squillaci at the heart of the defence. Arsenal U-18’s forward Nigel Neita made his reserve début after coming on for Zak Ansah for the final ten minutes of the match. Wolves first-team players Ronald Zubar, Richard Stearman, Jody Craddock and Karl Henry all started for their reserve team today at London Colney.

Arsenal U-18’s defensive midfielder Jordan Wynter trained with Arsenal’s first-team today, as Arsène Wenger’s side prepare for their Champions League last sixteen match against AC Milan tomorrow. Brandon Ormonde-Ottewill also trained with Arsenal’s first-team, who is currently Arsenal U-16’s left-back and made his début for Steve Bould’s side last month.

Benik Afobe didn’t feature for the Reserves today because he hasn’t been back in training for two weeks yet only eight days. Afobe could play for Neil Banfield’s side in a week when they take on Norwich Reserves away.
