Wenger on Hazard and profits, Blackburn reaction, Youngsters news and is Park off?

by on February 7, 2012

Hello all and good evening! It’s almost 10 in the evening here so I’ll make it brief [like that’s worked before]!

We beat Blackburn 7-1 as you all probably know. It doesn’t mean that we’re imperious all of a sudden, but it’s certainly a good start. For the first game since that decent unbeaten run we had a while back, everything just clicked and there weren’t really any performances that can be criticised. Obviously RVP was prolific, although for me the best players were Walcott and Oxlade-Chamberlain who were excellent flying down the wing as Arsenal Column points out. As always, Arsenal Report’s match report is always worth a read, as are wearetheNorthBank’s opinions.

I don’t want to talk much about the match when the afore-linked articles say what I would but without rambling, but be sure to check out the following compilations! Song vs. Blackburn, Benayoun vs. Blackburn and [of course!] Oxlade-Chamberlain vs. Blackburn.

Of course this article wouldn’t be complete without all the post-match videos as well with interviews from Wenger, Arteta and Oxlade-Chamberlain as well as the post-match press conference. Nice.

A few interesting quotes around. Wenger on Hazard and money. On Hazard, he was asked by the reporter if he liked Hazard, so the answer is hardly surprising. The quote on money says that we need to mae a profit of £15-20m per year. No doubt people will read into this and use it as a way to abuse our manager, but the simple fact is that we’re paying of a mortgage for one of the best football stadiums in the world, no wonder we’re spending money on it! Also interesting to note that Wenger was PSG’s first choice to be manager after their Qatari takeover, but he stayed with The Arsenal.

Two other things, Emmanuel Frimpong has suffered a massive injury and will be out for the rest of the season. Even worse, he could easily miss pre-season and the start of next season. It remains to be seen how long he’ll be out bit it’s a big blow for the midfielder. There are also rumours that Park Chu-Young could leave in the summer after not playing.. erm… at all really. Saying that, I’m told that Wenger will have a talk with the striker later in the week to make sure his head is in the right place.

A few people are also suggesting that The Arsenal will travel to South Korea and China in the summer, before playing a match in Nigeria. Obviously that’s all still tentative at the moment. Finally, here’s the team training in the snow. Marouane Chamakh is back training with the squad, and it looks like both full-backs are around, at least on light duty although Gibbs is fit. You might also spot Robert Pirès. You’ll know if you do. You’ll swoon.

Righto then, the U-18s beat Ipswich. The result was a bit flattering, but overall the team did well. Here’s the highlights. Finally, an interesting read by Jeorge Bird on whether foreign imports help or hinder home-grown talents.

Here’s a [very] brief glimpse of January signing Thomas Eisfeld.
