Hazard rumours, left-back rumours, Wellington shines, defender leaves on loan and apparently there’s a match on Sunday which Thomas Vermaelen will make.

Good morning everyone and a happy weekend to you all! Whether the weekend will be happy or not remains to be seen, given that we play Manchester United on Sunday. Brendan has done a short preview which is worth a read if you haven’t already seen it.

The injury news is that Arteta is likely to miss the match [which I did say last week!], but Thomas Vermaelen “should” make the match according to the Mirror’s John Cross. Bacary Sagna is ruled out while Thierry Henry should be available. Tomas Rosicky and Per Mertesacker have both been ill and the boss will decide on them tomorrow.

I don’t really have that much to say on the match, but here’s two pre-match interviews, from Arsene Wenger and Andrei Arshavin. I really don’t have much else to say about the match, we’ll just have to wait and see. One thing to look forward to is that we’re [hopefully] be trying out a new style of match report, with contributions from more than one author so be sure to look out for that next week!

In the meantime, another young defender has left the club on loan with Danny Boateng heading out to Swindon Town. Speaking of youngsters out on loan, Wellington made his debut for his new loan club yesterday after being released by Levante and he was… brilliant, showing the potential that got him signed for the club in the first place! I’ll look out for the comp so be sure to check back in a few days time, it’ll be worth a watch. There were a few interesting things that cropped up in Wenger’s presser. I won’t speak about the more noteworthy topics, because then we would be here for hours, but he did mention a left-back.

It looks as if he might have a look at the market after Sunday’s game:

“I will assess the situation after the game on Sunday but until then nothing will happen now for us.”

He also had some interesting quotes about replacing the Reserves with an U-21s league, something I’ve spoken about before and said that, despite what certain board members have said in recent weeks, finishing outside of the top four would be “a disaster”.

If you are interested in reading more about Wenger’s press-conference, then this piece by A Cultured Left Foot is worth a read. As is this piece by Tim Stillman about fans’ reactions to the team and results. In fact, I would implore you to read both of them. Do it. Now!

Finally, there have been the usual Hazard rumours recently, as any tweeters out there will have noticed. Ignore them, I really can’t see him being sold when Lille could start a bidding war in the summer.

That’s all for now folks, as always you can follow me on twitter @SavageGooner and ‘like’ the blog on facebook to see all the posts and Arsenal news. Let’s hope tomorrow goes well.
