Miquel & Yennaris Loan Moves?

by on January 15, 2012

Spanish U-19’s defender Ignasi Miquel could start his first Premiership match for the Gunners today against Swansea at the Liberty Stadium. Miquel started against Leeds United last week at left-back in the F.A Cup, which isn’t his preferred position it’s center-back. But because of injuries to André Santos, Kieran Gibbs and Thomas Vermaelen the Spaniard is likely to start there against the Welsh side. Arsenal’s reserve team captain has already made eight appearances for Arsène Wenger’s side this season already.

With the likes of Kieran Gibbs, Thomas Vermaelen and Bacary Sagna all are expected to return from injuries this month could this mean Spanish defender Ignasi Miquel could heading out on loan later this month? Well Miquel recently spoke about his chances of leaving the the Gunners on loan.

“Before the injuries, I had in my head to go on loan to the Championship but now with this I’ve not spoken to anyone,’ he said.”

“If they can sign someone or Kieran Gibbs comes back, we’ll see if I stay here or go on loan.”

Miquel going out on loan could depend if French defender Sébastien Squillaci leaves Arsenal this month, Squillaci has been linked with a move to his former club Monaco. With a few defenders expected to return from injuries later this month it looks like there is a good possibility Miquel will go out on loan later this month.
Miquel is very good technically, reads the game reasonably well and good passing ability for a center-back. The Spanish defender lacks with the physical side of the English game a bit which is expected and a loan to a Championship side until the end of the season would be perfect for Miquel.
Another player who could go on loan this month to continue there football education is versatile reserve player Nico Yennaris. The England U-19’s midfield came on for Francis Coquelin against Leeds United last week in the first-half. Yennaris went to right-back for the Gunners where he played when he made his debut for Arsène Wenger’s side earlier this season against Premiership side Bolton in the Carling Cup.
Yennaris could be on the bench for the Gunners today against Swansea but it seems a loan move is a likely option for the England-U19’s player. The Arsenal reserve player said earlier this month he nearly went on loan in November.
“I was nearly going out on loan before the window closed in November, and the boss [Arsène Wenger] spoke to me and said I need to start playing a man’s game and get experience.”
I expect more players from the Reserves will be leaving the Emirates this month on loan the likes of Gavin Hoyte, Craig Eastmond, Rhys Murphy and James Shea. Highly rated Dutch midfielder Oğuzhan Özyakup is another one who can be playing at a higher level than reserve football, Özyakup has been a standout player Neil Banfield’s side this season.
