Arsenal Take On Leeds In The Cup

by on January 8, 2012

Arsenal take on Leeds United tomorrow evening at the Emirates in the Third Round of the F.A Cup. The Gunners will be looking to bounce back after losing to Fulham last week in the Premiership after a late Bobby Zamora strike. Since the Fulham defeat Arsenal’s record top goal scorer Thierry Henry has rejoined the Gunners on a short-term loan deal from MLS side New York Red Bulls. Arsenal’s former captain is expected to feature against Leeds tomorrow.

Arsène Wenger said on Friday that he will name a strong Arsenal side for the F.A Cup tie against Leeds. He did mentioned one or two players will be rested, I expect that will be Robin Van Persie and Mikel Arteta. Gervinho will miss the game because of the the African Cup of Nations but Marouane Chamakh will be available. England U-21 midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Park Chu-Young both started for Neil Banfield’s side last week in the Reserves defeat to Sunderland. They are both likely to be involved against Leeds, I expect Chamberlain will start the match.

Arsenal are still missing defenders Carl Jenkinson, Andre Santos and Kieran Gibbs through injury. French international Bacary Sagna has returned to training recently but is still some way of from returning to action. Johan Djourou will miss the match through suspension after being sent his marching orders at Fulham. Thomas Vermaelen is still absent through injury but is expected to return for the Manchester United game later this month. Lastly midfielders Jack Wilshere and Abou Diaby are still unavailable for the Gunners because of injury.

Leeds defender Patrick Kisnorbo has been ruled out for the rest of the season with a knee injury. Tom Lees and Alex Bruce are both rated doubtful for the Championship club. Leeds are also missing key players Robert Snodgrass and captain Jonny Howson through injury as well.

Possible Arsenal team – Fabianski, Koscielny, Mertesacker, Squillaci, Miquel, Coquelin, Rosicky, Benayoun, Chamberlain, Arshavin, Chamakh.

Bench – Szczesny, Yennaris, Song, Ramsey, Park Chu-Young, Henry, Walcott.

Possible Leeds team – Lonergan ,Connolly, Lees, O’Dea, White, Townsend, Clayton, Brown, Pugh, McCormack, Becchio.

(If Lees returns)

Arsenal’s key player – I’ve gone for Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain he can cause the Leeds defence all sorts of problems tomorrow. With Leeds having a make shift defence as well tomorrow, I expect Chamberlain to take full advantage of it. He can definitely be Arsenal’s match winner tomorrow.

Leeds’s key player – Ross McCormack has been in good form this season for Leeds scoring elven goals so far for them in the Championship. He will need to be provided the right service tomorrow from the midfield, that will be very important.

Prediction – I think Arsenal will win the match by a couple of goals and I see the Gunners being in the fourth round of the F.A Cup. It would be great to see Thierry Henry score tomorrow for Arsenal on his return.
