Wenger On Henry Coming Back & And Where Will He Play?

by on December 31, 2011

Arsenal manager Arsène Wenger has recently spoke about Thierry Henry coming back to Arsenal next month, ahead of Henry’s two month deal with the club. Wenger also spoke about bringing former players back in the past like he did with Sol Campbell last year. The Frenchman also said Thierry Henry is capable of playing anywhere in the front three for the Gunners.

Wenger on bringing players back e.g. Sol Campbell in 2010, Jens Lehmann at the being of this year and now Thierry Henry.

“I never did it before.”

“You must have noticed that I only do it on short term.”

“I’ve done it with players who have a special attitude, special weight in the dressing room and I’ve done it at periods where experience can play a big part in the dressing room, from January to March.”

“Before I did it with a very young side and you can feel that when it comes to March they get a bit nervous.”

“Players who have won before can help them keep calm.”

“Now I do it for footballing reasons because I need a striker for two months.”

“Sol was fantastic when he came back.”

“Sol is like Thierry. Once they are committed you know you can rely on them.”

“I remember when we went to Tottenham, Sol was absolutely amazing for a guy who, three weeks before, you wondered if he could still play in the Premier League.”

“He had such a capacity to fight and it’s important to bring that out, they have that pride.”

“When players play they will want to be good.”

The Frenchman said Henry can play anywhere in the front three.

“Thierry came into the side on the left and when he moved to Barcelona he played on the left because they had [Zlatan] Ibrahimovic in the middle.”

“He played on the left, he showed he can still do it and can play in any of the three positions up front in the system we play. He can also play behind the striker as well.”
