Frimpong Joins Wolves On Loan

by on December 31, 2011

Arsenal midfielder Emmanuel Frimpong has joined Premiership side Wolverhampton Wanderers on loan until the end of the season. Frimpong has made fourteen appearances for the Gunners so far this season but has Alex Song and Francis Coquelin in front of him at the moment for a starting spot in the Arsenal team. It’s an ideal move for Frimpong because he will play more regularly for Wolves than he would at Arsenal and he will get that vital loan experience, like Jack Wilshere did at Bolton early in 2010.

The Ghanaian defensive midfielder will go straight in to the Wolves squad for their game against Chelsea on Monday. He could partner Wolves captain Karl Henry in center midfield on Monday for them. The loan move will go through tomorrow because the transfer window reopens on January 1st.

Wolves manager Mick McCarthy said this about Frimpong earlier today on the Wolves website.

“I’m delighted the deal is done with Emmanuel and he’s available for Monday because we need fresh players.”

“You have seen the shift the lads have put in today.”

“We’ll be continuing to try and get players in but I’m delighted with the business we have done so far.”

“Eggert is an international who has played a lot of games and has more improvement in him and Manny Frimpong is a really great signing for us.”

“He’s a terrific young player and an exciting prospect.”

“He is an all-action tough-tackling midfield player who can get about and pass it.”

“I watched him against Manchester City and he got box-to-box and his career is blossoming.”

“He should be a fabulous signing for us.”

“It’s good to get people in here for the first games because if you wait until the end of January it’s another four or five games gone.”

Arsène Wenger also spoke about Frimpong going out on loan.

“The reason behind it is that he is in the position of Jack Wilshere, he has the level to play with [Alex] Song in front of him. But he is somebody who needs practice; he needs the rhythm of the games.”

“Mick McCarthy told me he has a good chance to play.”

“I also have Coquelin in this position who can play.”

“One of the two had to go on loan, and Frimpong has a good opportunity at Wolves.
