Wenger Might Not Sign A Full-Back

by on December 30, 2011

Arsène Wenger might not sign a full-back in January, the Gunners currently have four full-backs out through injury. Wenger expects Kieran Gibbs and Bacary Sagna to return late in January which could affect his decision to sign a full-back. Brazilian full-back André Santos is expected to return for the Gunners in March and there no word on Carl Jenkinson at the moment.

The Frenchman said this to ArsenalPlayer.

“At the moment it is very difficult because we have players out who are short to come back,”

“There are difficult decisions to make because we are short in the full-back positions.”

“But you think, ‘do you really want to buy a full back for three or four years?”

“When you have four out and two close to coming back. I think no, because we have people who can do the job during this period.”

  1. why the heck bother to get another fullback?sometimes i question wengers knowlodge about our squad,i said it time and again, that we can play kosch at right back( johan is the worst defender ever to wear anm ARSENAL jersey and miguel realy did well at left back,so why keep on spending?i am the type of person that wants players from our acedamy tobe nourished, not goon a spending spree,no matter how well of is our club, even in henry’s case i am not in favour of bringing him back,he;ll be a sbumbling block for oxlade and rio.and after 2 months,he is off again, sorry a piece of bad business in my opinion

The right thing to do is to give younger ones a chance to perform while waiting for those injured to come back. No need going on a spending spree now, especially for full backs.

With Henry on board, switch to a 4 4 2 so he can play up top with RVP. In a 4 4 2 we don’t need winger style full backs as much as we do in our current set up. So we could keep playing our 4 center backs. In two months, as Henry’s loan spell ends, Sagna and others should be back and fully fit.
