Mertesacker On Henry and Podolski

by on December 28, 2011

German defender Per Mertesacker has spoken about a number of things which include training with former Arsenal captain Thierry Henry, the possibility of Henry coming back to Arsenal and Lukas Podolski his international team-mate. The German international described Podolski as a “great player“.

Arsenal are in the market for a striker in January with Chamakh and Gervinho both going to the African Nations Cup next month. Henry has been training with Arsenal for a number of weeks now because the MLS season is over at the moment. A number of reports are claiming Arsenal have offered Henry a chance to come back to Arsenal on loan. And it’s been reported Arsenal have scouted Podolski a number of times this season.

Mertesacker on former Arsenal captain Thierry Henry.

“He is playing very, very good,”

“I am very happy to play against him in training and it is a great experience. He is a great opportunity for us but I’m not the manager. I couldn’t make a decision on what is possible for him or for us.”

“In training he shows his class and to have him with us is great because he shows his attitude and his experience. He still has the same attitude he showed in a lot of games at Arsenal.”

The German defender on Podolski.

“He is a great player,”

“He scores a lot of goals. You see, ‘new Germans’ are not so bad! He’s a good striker with a very good finish. His left foot is unbelievable and I’m a fan of him.”

“This year, he has scored a lot of goals. He is powerful as well. The Premier League is a little different from the Bundesliga, but you get used to everything.”

It’s been reported Mertesacker also said this below.

“Of course I’ve been on the phone to him., he is a great player, he scores a lot of goals and his left foot is unbelievable.”
