Arsenal Take Aston Villa Tomorrow

by on December 20, 2011

Arsenal take on Aston Villa tomorrow evening at Villa Park, the Gunners were defeated on Sunday by league leaders Manchester City. The North London club were narrowly defeated on the weekend by a David Silva goal. Aston Villa also lost on the weekend 2-0 to Liverpool, they were missing key strikers Darrent Bent and Gabriel Agbonlahor. Arsenal are currently fifth in the Premiership and Villa are tenth.

Arsenal will be without Alex Song tomorrow after picking up his fifth yellow card of the season against Manchester City. This mean either Emmaneul Frimpong or Francis Coquelin will come in for the Cameroon midfielder. Frimpong was on the bench for the Gunners on Sunday and Francis Coquelin traveled with the match-day squad but was only on stand by for the match.

Johan Djourou suffered a groin injury early in the second-half against Manchester City and is ruled out for at least the next three weeks. With injuries to André Santos, Carl Jenkinson and Bacary Sagna it means Arsenal are very short at the back. Kieran Gibbs returned to training last week and there was small possibility he could have returned for this match but according to reports he isn’t ready yet.  Spanish U-19’s defender Ignasi Miquel is likely to start tomorrow at left-back.

The likes of Jack Wilshere and Abou Diaby are still missing through injury. Aston Villa are missing Shay Given through a hamstring injury, also missing is Chris Herd with an ankle injury. Darren Bent could return for Villa he missed the defeat to Liverpool because of a hip injury.

Possible Arsenal team – Szczęsny, Miquel, Vermaelen, Mertesacker, Koscielny, Coquelin, Arteta, Ramsey, Gervinho, Walcott, Van Persie (C).

Bench – Almunia, Squillaci, Frimpong, Rosický, Arshavin, Benayoun, Chamakh.

Possible Aston Villa team – Guzan, Warnock, Dunne, Collins, Hutton, N’Zogbia, Bannan, Petrov (C), Albrightom, Bent, Agbonlahor.

Bench – Marshall, Clark, Cuéllar, Delph, Weimann, Delfouneso, Heskey.

Arsenal’s key player – I’ve gone for Robin Van Persie, he’s in great goal scoring form this season for the Gunners. Aston Villa aren’t as tight in defence as they used to be. With the likes of Walcott and Gervinho should be capable of causing Hutton and Warnock problems tomorrow evening. This could mean providing the right service for Van Persie and I have no doubt Van Persie will score if the service is good enough.

Aston Villa’s key player – The returning Gabriel Agbonlahor he’s full of pace and able to score goals. It will be interesting if he will play up front tomorrow or being pushed out to wing like he previously has this season. And with Arsenal playing center-backs as their full-backs tomorrow Agbonlahor could take advantage of this.

Prediction – Arsenal were unlucky to lose their last game against Man City, they played well just couldn’t find the goal they needed. So Arsenal are still playing well going in to this game. I watched Aston Villa against Liverpool on the weekend they were poor but with Bent and Agbonlahor returning for them it will give them more firepower up front. Still think Arsenal will win the game 3-1 with Van Persie, Walcott and Ramsey all scoring.
