Neil Banfield on his sides performance, Wenger watching & the new year

by on December 19, 2011

Arsenal Reserve team coach Neil Banfield spoke to the Arsenal website after his side’s reserves defeat to Chelsea today at London Colney. He spoke about a number of things including his sides performance, on the match, Arsène Wenger watching and heading in to the new year.

Banfield on his side’s performance and the result.

“I thought it was a really good game.”

“I know it’s a bit of a cliché that you have to take your chances, but when you look at it they [scored from] a corner, a counter-attack and a really good free kick.”

“They took their opportunities and we created a few but didn’t take them. As a game from box to box I was quite pleased.

You get what you deserve, and they scored four and we didn’t. It’s a matter of us keeping playing as we are and maybe be a bit tighter on certain things and take the opportunities when they come along.”

On Wenger watching as a spectator.

“The boss watches our games when he can, and while he’s obviously disappointed with the result, overall the way we try to play is a credit to the lads.

Going in to the new year with a defeat.

“It’s always a bit sore to go into the Christmas break on a loss, and we haven’t got a game for a few weeks.”

“It would have been nice to send them off with a win, but it wasn’t to be.”

“We have had a few words in the changing room and we will come back refreshed for the run-in to the season.

Arsenal Reserves next play on 4th January against Sunderland at London Colney which could see the return of former Arsenal Reserve and Youth team player Roarie Deacon. Then they take on Aston Villa at London Colney the following Monday on 9th January.
