by on December 16, 2011

Arsenal have been drawn against Italian side AC Milan in the Champions League last sixteen knockout phase. The Gunners beat AC Milan in the 2007/08 season 2-0 at the San Siro.

Arsenal beat Udinese at the Emirate with Theo Walcott scoring the only goal of the game. Then in Italy the Gunners beat Udinese 2-1 with Robin Van Persie and Theo Walcott scoring both goals for the North London side on the night. Wojciech Szczęsny saved Italian striker Di Natale’s penalty which was the turning point of the game. Arsenal were through to the group stages of the Champions League beating Udinese 3-1 overall.

Borussia Dortmund was Arsenal’s opening group match with Van Persie scoring to put Arsenal in to the lead but a late Ivan Perišić got the German side a point. Arsenal defeated Greek side Olympiacos 2-1 with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Andre Santos scoring for Arsenal. Then a late Aaron Ramsey strike was enough to beat Marseille in France.

In their fourth group match Arsenal couldn’t break down Marseille at the Emirates and it finished 0-0. Arsenal guaranteed qualification when the North London side beat Dortmund 2-1 at the Emirates with Van Persie scoring both goals for Arsenal on the night. Because Arsenal were already qualified they took a weakened team to Greece and lost 3-1 to Olympiacos.
