Martínez Loan Move, Watt Can’t Make Owls Debut Yet & Angha Speaks

by on December 1, 2011

According to the Mirror highly rated Arsenal Reserves goalkeeper Damián Martínez  is keen on going out on loan to continue his football education. The Argentinian goalkeeper is prepared to dropped down to the Championship or League One to get that vital loan experience. Martínez has only started four games this season for Neil Banfield’s side, he has been unlucky with the likes of Vito Mannone and Manuel Almunia dropping down from the first-team to keep their fitness up by playing the Reserves. Arsène Wenger described Martínez as a ‘promising goalkeeper’ last season and he was an unused substitution for the first-team against Shrewsbury in the Carling Cup third round this season.

Martínez definitely falls in to the same category as current Arsenal number one Wojciech Szczęsny talent wise. If Martínez goes go out on loan in January then it will be similar to when Szczęsny went out on loan to Brentford a couple of seasons ago. If the young Argentinian goalkeeper does go out on loan then it will allow more opportunities for young Arsenal goalkeeper Sean McDermott for the Reserves.

Sanchez Watt recently went out on loan to League One side Sheffield Wednesday but hasn’t made his debut yet for them. He is unable to play for Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday in the FA Cup against Aldershot. This is because Arsène Wenger has refused to give permission for Watt to play for the Owls in the F.A Cup.

Sheffield Wednesday manager Gary Megson said this about the situation below.

“It’s not a blow, because it’s what I expected, really,”

“I had a good chat with Arsene and I understand perfectly Arsenal’s point of view.

“I used to do the same myself when I was at Bolton.

“It is not unusual for a Premier League club not to want their player cup-tied by allowing them to play for somebody else in the cup, but a loan move is still a good way for young players to gain experience.”

This could be because Watt’s loan deal ends in January with the League One side and forward could go out on loan again to another team who are still in the F.A Cup. Sanchez Watt will have to wait till the 10th December to make his debut for the Owls against Oldham away.

Arsenal Reserve versatile defender Martin Angha has recently said to the Arsenal website “I don’t think that as a young player you could get a better club than Arsenal”. Angha got promoted to Neil Banfield’s side this pre-season he is still only seventeen and able to play for Steve Bould’s side this season as well. He is expected to feature for Arsenal in the F.A Youth Cup later this month against Derby County. Angha has trained with the first-team a number of times this season already.
