Arsenal Take On Man City In The Carling Cup Tomorrow

by on November 28, 2011

After the frustrating draw against Fulham on Saturday in the Premiership, Arsenal now turn their attentions towards tomorrows Carling Cup Quarter Finals match against Manchester City at the Emirates. Arsène Wenger is expected to have a blend of experience and youth in his squad for tomorrows game. This will mean the likes of Emmanuel Frimpong, Yossi Benayoun and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlin are likely to start for the North London side. Wenger will rest the likes of Robin Van Persie, Aaron Ramsey and Theo Walcott for tomorrows game.

Samir Nasri and Gaël Clichy both left Arsenal in the summer to move to Manchester City and they could line-up against their former side tomorrow. Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini is expected to make changes to the team which started against Liverpool on weekend with the likes of Edin Džeko, Adam Johnson and Kolo Toure expected to start for the league leaders.

Arsène Wenger’s team trained ahead of the Carling Cup tie today at London Colney, with a host of Reserve players training with the first-team. Gervinho and Koscielny both started on the bench against Fulham on the weekend and both trained today, so theirs a high possibility they could feature tomorrow. Reserve players Craig Eastmond, Zak Ansah, Rhys Murphy, Nico Yennaris and Oğuzhan Özyakup all trained with the first-team today. The two likely candidates from Neil Banfield’s side who could be named in the Arsenal squad for tomorrow match are Nico Yennaris and Oğuzhan Özyakup.

Possible Arsenal team – Fabianski, Miquel, Squillaci, Koscienly, Yennaris, Frimpong, Coquelin, Benayoun, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Park Chu-Young, Chamakh

Possible Man City team – Pantilimon, Kolarov, Touré, Savić, Zabaleta, De-Jong, Hargreaves, Milner, Nasri, Johnson, Džeko

Arsenal’s Key Player – I decided to pick Yossi Benayoun think he will start tomorrow for Arsenal. He hasn’t started as many games as he would have liked so far this season. Tomorrow could be a big game for him he will be wanting impress Wenger and he is a player capable of opening up defenses. And does score the odd goal as well, he’s already scored for the gunners this season in the victory against Shrewsbury Town. On another note Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain could cause Man City all sort of problems.

Man City’s Key Player – Adam Johnson is a talented midfielder but normally finds himself on the bench for Man City this season. He is expected to start for the league leaders tomorrow and will be wanting to put in a good performance for Man City tomorrow.

Prediction – It’s a hard game to predict, one because both sides starting elevens are very hard to predict and two it’s a cup match. So my prediction for this match is just an Arsenal win, 2-1 to Arsenal. Goals from Oxlade-Chamberlain and Yossi Benayoun.
