Dortmund preview, Diaby returns, Goetze or no Goetze, Reserves and Loanees.

by on November 23, 2011

Hello all and happy Wednesday! We play Dortmund later this evening in what could prove to be a pivotal match if we want to finish top of our group. I’m not going to do a preview, for the simple fact that Brendan has already done a pretty detailed one! Feel free to give it a read here. Perhaps surprisingly, Abou Diaby has joined up with the squad to replace Tomas Rosicky who has a slight knock. I remember saying yesterday that Rosicky didn’t train with the squad, but it’s a bit surprising that Diaby, who hasn’t played competitive football in quite some time, is coming straight back into the squad rather than playing for the Reserves last night. On that note, the Reserves were away to a very strong-looking Wolves side and came away with a credible 0-0 draw after an impressive performance, although there were a few missed chances from both sides. Back to tonight though, the boss was at the pre-match presser with Wojciech Szczesny who answered a few questions about his cockiness.

As for Dortmund themselves, they could have a strong right-hand side if Mario Goetze plays out wide in front of Pizczek, with Hummels and Lowe also playing well this season. The loss of Subotic will be a blow to the German side though. Mario Goetze has been linked with the Arsenal on more than one occasion, but Le boss has [as per usual] refused to be drawn on rumours over the young midfielder.

In other news, Ivan Gazidis spoke recently about how effective the Financial Fair Play rules may be, while Chuks Aneke and Luke Freeman have moved on loan to Stevenage. A good move for me, mainly because a friend of mine on twitter is a Stevenage fan so I’ll have reports on their performances!

Finally, Nick is back!!!! After his absence, he’s back blogging every Monday so be sure to read his weekly rants! Anyway, that’s it for today. As always you can follow me on twitter @SavageGooner and “like” us on facebook.
