by on November 21, 2011

Arsenal reserves defeated Norwich at London Colney last week to make it two successive victory’s in a row for Neil Banfield’s side. Dutch midfielder Oğuzhan Özyakup scored a brace, in-form forward Sanchez Watt scored one and the returning Chuks Aneke got the other. Now the reserves take on Wolverhampton Wanderers on Tuesday evening away looking for another victory. French international Abou Diaby has recently returned to full training with the first-team and could feature for the reserves tomorrow.

Spanish U-19’s defender Ignasi Miquel was absent for the last game which meant center-back Daniel Boateng was the stand in captain but got sent his marching orders afte receiving two yellow cards against Norwich. This means Boateng will miss the Wolverhampton game, Gavin Hoyte went off with a hamstring injury against Norwich and is also a doubt for Tuesday. With Japanese teenager Ryo currently injured with a sprained ankle and Luke Freeman going out on loan to League One side Stevenage. This could mean Zak Ansah could start for Neil Banfield’s side operating on the wing.

Emmanuel Frimpong has started the last two reserve games during the international break but could return to the first-team. Dutch midfielder Kyle Ebecilio and Swizz defender Sead Hajrovic are both likely to return after being on international duty last week. With the Carling Cup quarter final match against Manchester City only weeks away players will be wanting to impress.

Arsenal U-18’s defeated Portsmouth U-18’s away with Alban Bunjaku scoring a hat-trick for Steve Bould’s side. That’s the young midfielders fifth goal in his last two matches. Summer recruits Serge Gnabry, Kristoffer Olsson and Jon Toral all also scored. Highly rated Arsenal schoolboy Chuba Akpom was handed a start by Steve Bould for the match.

With Bunjaku excellent scoring form recently, the goalscoring midfielder has a good chance to be named in a reserve squad in their up incoming matches in the next few weeks. Steve Bould said this season they were trying to get Bunjaku to take less touches of the ball and try release his passes quicker. With Bunjaku normally playing in the number ten role for the U-18’s almost as a second striker.

Luke Freeman made his debut for League One side Stevenage on the weekend against Leyton Orient. The former England-U17’s forward started on the left wing and putting in a impressive performance for Stevenage who drew 0-0. Freeman will be looking to get as much playing time as possible during his time at Broadhall Way. His current loan deal lasts until January with a possible extension if Stevenage wish to do so.

Reserve defender Daniel Boateng signed an extension to his current Arsenal contract last week. And Nico Yennaris tweeted saying he just put pen to paper on to a new contract with the North London club, expect it to be announced on Arsenal’s website next week.
