Norwich Vs Arsenal – Preview

by on November 18, 2011

Before I talk about the the Arsenal match against Norwich, I first wanted to say Arsenal’s record top goalscorer Thierry Henry has returned to the club to train with the first-team. This is because the MLS season is finished and the former French international wants to keep his fitness up during the MLS break. Henry will take part in training, also FC Dallas versatile midfielder Brek Shea will train with Arsenal as well. Shea could possibly play for the Reserves during his time here.

Arsenal take on newly promoted Norwich City at  Carrow Road on Saturday in the lunchtime kick off in the Premiership. It’s been an international break for the last two weeks, so it seems it’s been a while since Arsenal last played which was when they defeated West Brom the at the Emirates. The gunners have won their last four Premiership games and they’ve also won nine out of their last elven games in all competitions.

Kieran Gibbs has had hernia surgery which according to The Metro which could keep the Arsenal full-back out of action for the next six weeks. Some good news on the injury front is French international Abou Diaby has returned to training after suffering a set-back a few weeks ago. Long term injuries are Jack Wilshere and Bacary Sagna. Marouane Chamakh trained with the first team yesterday after returning from a knee injury. Nineteen year old Carl Jenkinson has a stress fracture in his back and will miss the game.

Looking past the Norwich game on the weekend, Arsenal have a tough game next Wednesday against Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League. If they beat the Germany champions then they are qualified for the last sixteen in the Champions League.

Arsenal are likely to make one change from the starting elven which beat West Brom, I expect it will either be Johan Djourou coming for Jenkinson at right-back. Or Laurent Koscielny will move to right-back and Per Mertersacker could then partner Thomas Vermaelen at the heart of the defence. Norwich are missing forward Jack Vaughan because he has got a knee injury.

Arsenal possible team – Szczesny, Andre Santos, Vermaelen,  Koscielny, Djourou, Song, Arteta, Ramsey, Walcott, Arshavin, Van Persie (C)

Subs – Fabianski, Mertersacker, Frimpong/Coquelin, Rosicky, Benayoun, Arshavin, Park,

Norwich Possible team – Ruddy, Tierney, Barnett, De Laet, Naughton, Crofts, Fox, Johnson, Pilkington, Bennett, Morison

Arsenal’s Key Player – Robin Van Persie, the Dutch international is in brilliant goal scoring form. Scoring all sorts of goals this season for Arsenal. If he’s given the right service from the midfield and wide players then I fully expect Van Persie to continue his scoring record against Norwich.

Norwich’s Key Player – Anthony Pilkington, the former Huddersfield player has scored four goals already for Norwich this season. He’s a player which could cause Arsenal’s defence some problems tomorrow. You wouldn’t of thought he was playing in League One last season. Definitely a talented midfielder who’s capable of scoring goals and creating them.

My prediction is an Arsenal away win, up to the international break Arsenal have been in good form but haven’t hit top form yet. The pace of Walcott and Gervinho could cause the Norwich defence all sorts of problems and with a player like Van Persie leading the line anything is possible.

Does ramsey deserve a starting place ahead of rosicky ?

  3. I got a feeling it could be a slow paced game, esp. with the long interlull. 2-1 to the Arsenal…
