by on November 13, 2011

Arsenal Reserves got back to winning ways last week by beating Fulham in a two-goal victory. Sanchez Watt with his sixth goal for Neil Banfield’s side this season and the impressive Dutch midfielder Oğuzhan Özyakup with the other. It was a comfortable victory for the Reserves with Gavin Hoyte and Craig Eastmond both continuing their comebacks from long-term injuries. Unfortunately highly rated Japanese teenager Ryo Miyaichi sprained his left ankle which forced him to be substituted in the first-half. Neil Banfield confirmed after the match Ryo will be out for at least three weeks.

Arsène Wenger and Steve Bould were both spectators at London Colney watching the Reserves last week. Wenger was likely watching because Arsenal play against Manchester City in the Carling Cup quarter finals later this month. The players who impressed Wenger have a chance to be part of the first team squad for the Carling Cup match, most likely to start on the bench. As in the last two rounds the Arsenal substitute bench as mainly been filled with Reserve players. Bould saw Bihmoutine, Ansah and Roberts all from his U-18’s side all coming on as subsitutes through out the Reserve match.

Neil Banfield’s side next play on Tuesday at London Colney against Norwich Reserves, Nico Yennaris might not feature after being on international duty with England U-19’s. Chuks Aneke, Ignasi Miquel and Jernade Meade all missed the Reserves last match against Fulham last week. Kyle Ebecilio and Sead Hajrovic have been on international duty as well for their countries at youth level this week. Emmanuel Frimpong dropped down from Arsène Wenger’s first team last week to play for the Reserves against Fulham.

Versatile player Nico Yennaris recently spoke to the Arsenal website and praised Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain by saying this, “he’s (Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain) just showing everybody else what’s possible.” Yennaris also hinted their is a possibility this season for him to go out loan this season if he wants to break in to the England  Under-21 squad. Because you don’t see many reserve players playing for the England U-21’s the majority are playing first team football for their clubs.

Arsenal U-18’s forward Zak Ansah also spoke to the Arsenal website about wanting to break in Neil Banfield’s side this season. Ansah has recently featured for the Reserves being on the bench and coming on as a substitute this season. He did start for the Reserves last month against Swansea which ended in a draw. Ansah mentioned how the U-18’s haven’t hit their best form yet and with the F.A Youth Cup starting next month it will be perfect time to do so.

Steve Bould’s side defeated Ipswich Town U-18’s yesterday away with both goals coming from Alban Bunjaku in the first-half. Former Barcelona youth team player Hector Bellerin returned from injury. Josh Rees started his first U-18’s match of the season after making his come back from a long-term injury in the U-18’s last match in the defeat to Norwich City. Arsenal U-18’s have been drawn against Derby County in the third round of the F.A Youth Cup which will be played next month.
