The interlull is here… Wilshere’s pledge, not a one-man team, MvB on RVP and Arsenal, Arteta’s influence.

by on November 8, 2011

An eerie silence descends upon London Colney, broken only by the footsteps of Mikel Arteta, left behind by his team-mates who’ve flown abroad to represent their countries. Not that he’s alone, Abou Diaby, Jack Wilshere and Bacary Sagna are all in the brand new medical centre. I’m sure we don’t really need all those injuries; but if you build a medical centre you might as well get value for money! The good news though, Jack Wilshere said yesterday on twitter that his recent x-ray was positive. He was cautious with his words, but it looks like there aren’t any set-backs and the general consensus seems to be that he could be available for selection by mid-December. Sagna will still probably be out for 2-3 months, while Abou Diaby will probably have to wait until the end of the month before he makes his come-back. Kieran Gibbs and Marouane Chamakh have also been side-lined recently, but should be back by the end on the interlull.

That’s great then. Wilshere and Sagna should be able to really add to the team, while Gibbs, Diaby and Chamakh should add to the squad depth and competition for places. Of course, there are those who would tell you that Arsenal are a one-man team. No doubt the kind of criticism we’re all used to, but still annoying. The fact that we’ve had 9 different goal-scorers in the last 5 matches. Koscielny’s form, the quality of Szczesny, Vermaelen and Sagna at the back. Song’s [better] performances, the quality of Arteta, Wilshere and Ramsey. Walcott and Gervinho’s improving contributions up front. Yes, Van Persie is our best player at the moment, but isn’t that the same with everyone? GoonerTalk speaks more about it, definitely worth a read.

Saying that, he’s obviously on unbelievable form at the moment and Marco van Basten [one of my favourite players] has come out and told his compatriot to stay at the Arsenal saying, “It is the club where Robin belongs”. Read the quotes here, they’re great! He speaks about why Robin should stay at the club and why Chelsea and City can’t buy our class! More good quotes as well, Jack Wilshere promises to stay at Arsenal forever! Obviously I wouldn’t hold him to that, the future is just too unpredictable, but it’s great to see how much he loves the club, if we needed a reminder.

Jack hasn’t featured for us yet his season, but we brought in Mikel Arteta on deadline day and he hasn’t been too bad really. An understatement of course. He’s been one of my favourite players. In my esteem, he’s up there with RVP for his performances this season. Tells you something. There have been a few quotes about him this season, from le Boss and a few of the players as well. Read them here. You can also read Brendan’s report on the Reserves recent 2-0 win at home to Fulham, with promising midfielder Oghuzan Ozyakup and the in-from Sanchez Watt both scoring.

One more thing then, with luck there will be a new columnist on the blog, taking over from where Nick left off. I’m hoping to unveil him [or her] on Thursday, although if you already follow me on twitter [click here if you don’t] you can probably guess who it is. Anyway, stay tuned and be sure to like us on facebook!
