Soft news as interlull continues, Szczesny wants the arm-band and a Lille striker coming our way?

by on October 5, 2011

It’s an interlull! How can you tell? Well, because most of today’s post will be about the ladies and the youngsters. Sorry.

Arsenal Ladies will be completing the second leg of their Champions League tie at home to FC Bobruichanka today and their will be some younger faces on show, with the Ladies team taking a 4-0 lead in the away leg of the tie.

In an interview with the official site, Ladies striker Ellen White spoke about the experience of playing in the Champions League, how different it feels and the Arsenal Ladies’ chances.

I already mentioned the Reserves 2-2 draw with Swansea a day or two ago and Neil Banfield spoke after the match about the performance and the result. Chuks Aneke starred in that match, unsurprising as he’s one of the most talented of the youngsters at the club and is being tipped for a big future. He’s been speaking recently to the club about similarities between himself and Abou Diaby [I’ll resist the urge to make a sarcastic comment] and also about getting a chance in the Carling Cup against Bolton after being in the squad to face Shrewsbury. I’d love to see him get more chances and I would definitely expect him to go on loan in January, hopefully getting valuable experience like Benik Afobe did at Huddersfield last season.

Another young player who was in the squad for the Shrewsbury game was Oguzhan Ozyakup, who came on to set up Yossi Benayoun. Not a bad way to mark your first senior appearance for the club. There’s also been talk about the future position of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain after his performances against Shrewsbury and Olympiakos. GoonerTalk makes the case for him to be a left-winger, in the kind of Pires-ish role. Certainly an interesting read.

Jeorge Bird has done an interesting piece on the current scholars with the club, about who is likely to earn a contract and carry on into the reserves/first-team and who is likely to be released. Worth a read if you’re interested in the youngsters. [not in a dodgy kind of way]

Okay, Wojciech Szczesny has been talking quite a bit recently. He’s been saying that, no matter how many outstanding saves a ‘keeper makes in a match, it’s the final score that counts. He’s also been speaking about his belief in the club, the squad and the manager. In the long-term at the club, he’s also targeting the captaincy, whenever Robin Van Persie leaves/retires/abdicates/gets abducted by aliens.

One more thing, we are looking at Moussa Sow according to tAlKsHiTeSpOrT. How many Lille players do we want anyway? A striker coming in, what do we think of that? End of the line for Chamakh? Surely Afobe would get the squad place of an outgoing striker? Who knows.

Anyway, that’s it for today. As always you can follow me on twitter @SavageGooner and you can also ‘like’ us on facebook. I might have something up tomorrow, Nick should as it’s a Thursday, If he can be assed this time. Laters all.
