Oxlade-Chamberlain and Coquelin – a bright future?

by on September 22, 2011

Arsenal 3 – 1 Shrewsbury

Highlights | Post-match presser

Post-match interviews: AW | Ryo | Oxo

Seeing as I didn’t watch the match live [like the rest of us] I’m not going to do a match report. Mainly because I wouldn’t really know what I was reporting! I’ll link to a few good ones though.

Arsenal Youth seem to have a decent enough match report as well, definitely worth giving a read.

As always, Arsenal Report have a tactically in-depth analysis of the match. What went wrong and what went right. If you don’t like reading, there are pictures as well. Young Guns has an interesting piece on what some of the performances could mean for the first team. Worth a read really. There were obviously two stand-out performers in Coquelin and Oxo.

I know that I’ve been proclaiming the virtues of Coquelin to anyone that will listen for quite a while now and I’m happy he’s coming good. Joss Bennett from Arsenal Report has written a piece for Ashburton Grove about the youngsters performance. To re-watch his match, follow this link to CWDailyGooner’s blog. A youngster I’m really excited about. That makes a change.

Promising youngsters

Kieran Gibbs also spoke after the match, saying that the team are united and that he’s hoping his ‘luck is changing now’. Although he had a good game, I’m still excited about Oxlade-Chamberlain and Coquelin. As many have said, it’s important not to judge players on one game, but what brilliant prospects. It’s easy to forget how much Coquelin shone in the youth team when they won the double. He could easily take Frimpong’s place if he goes to the African Cup if Nations and possibly even Song’s. We all know what Oxlade-Chamberlain offers already, although he needs a bit more experience before he’ll be properly ready, he’s so exciting.

Pedro Bothelho had an interesting weekend in an ill-tempered match where he played 83 minutes and assisted the only goal of the game with a flick-on. From a corner. Yes, an Arsenal player did that. Time to end on a sour note though, Benik Afobe has been told he could be out for four months, after initial reports said it would only be a few days. Looks like a loan in January for the youngster then.

That’s it then, Bolton preview tomorrow. Be sure to follow me on twitter, like us on facebook, etc. Thanks peeps.
