All the Arsenal action of the transfer window, who’s hot and who’s not?

by on September 1, 2011

I don’t know about you lot, but the last few days have left me absolutely exhausted! Especially last night. Enough about me and Halle Berry though, apparently some transfers went through over the lest few days? Being serious for a moment [I know it’s rare] it was quite exciting. So often as Arsenal fans we spend deadline day on the sidelines without actually getting anyone or really taking part. It was nice to get involved and buy a few players. Anyways, I think I’ve made a list of everyone who’s come in and everyone who’s left. Let me know whether I’ve missed anyone out.

Cesc – Obviously it’s disappointing to lose a player of Cesc’s quality, but putting it in perspective we all knew that this day would come. His hamstrings severely restricted his appearances over the last few seasons. Should have got more for him. (Sold to Barcelona)

Nasri Greedy little tosser. Shouldn’t have got so much for him. (Sold to Man City)

Clichy – A decent left-back. Not irreplaceable by a long way. Hope he enjoys City’s bench. (Sold to Man City)

Eboue – A good guy. Shame he just wasn’t good enough. (Sold to Galatasaray)

JET – Good talent, bad work-rate. Reminds me of myself in maths. (Sold to Ipswich)

Traore – Really fast, more of a wing-back or midfielder than a full-back. It showed. (Sold to QPR)

Sunu – Decent talent, just stalled in his development. Never going to make it here. (Sold to Lorient)

Bendtner – A massive opportunity to prove what he can do. Steve Bruce is a big fan of his. (Loaned to Sunderland)

Vela – I hoped he would get a few chances this season. Now that he’s out on loan, not even at an English club, is it the end of his Arsenal career? (Loaned to Real Sociedad)

Bothelho – A good player by all accounts, but we can’t loan him out forever. He has to get a work permit at some point! (Loaned to Rayo Vallecano)

Lansbury – A good loan deal for the youngster, despite the fact that he’ll be with Joey Barton and Big Sam. With one year apparently left on his contract, is that it for his Arsenal career as well? (Loaned to West Ham)

Denilson – Never got his head round the new formation, can’t see him making it at Arsenal now. (Loaned to Sao Paulo)

Campbell – Shame about his work permit. Lorient really helped Coquelin last season, hopefully Campbell will learn a lot as well. (Loaned to Lorient)

Sorry, couldn't find an image without a scummy shirt.

Jenkinson – One for the future. Shouldn’t have played as much as he’s had to. Shows a lot of talent. (Bought from Charlton)

Gervinho – Looking good so far. Looks to go past his man and seems to be working on his final ball. Good at getting in behind the defence. (Bought from Lille)

Oxlade-Chamberlain – Like Jenkinson he’s one for the future. Hasn’t been forced to play that much, but should really be in cup squads, rather than off the bench for Old Trafford in the league. (Bought from Southampton)

Miyaichi – Although he wasn’t signed during this window, this was the first time he became eligible for us. Much like Oxo, he’s an unknown quantity, but one that will hopefully become a good quantity. (Signed from somewhere in Japan)

Park – Onto the real signings then. As I said when this deal was announced, I don’t know much about Park. A good player by all accounts but not so much a finished, more of a support player. It will be interesting to see what he offers, more depth is always welcome. (Bought from Monaco)

Santos – A left-back was needed. A left-back was bought. Simple as. Typical Wenger left-back, great going forward, maybe a bit dodgy at the back. Competition for Gibbs is great, can’t wait to see him play. (Bought from Fenerbache)

Mertesacker – What a signing. I know some people are worried about his lack of pace, but apart from that he’s a top defender. I really rate him, not just for the fact that he brings more depth to the defence, more quality into the squad and more experience! 75 caps for Germany, he seemed to do well enough against Messi in the World Cup! (Bought from Werder Bremen)

Benayoun – I have to admit, I’ve always been a Benayoun admirer. I was surprised Liverpool sold him really, I thought he was “a cracking little player. Absolutely t’riffic.” as ‘Arry might have put it. In my opinion, he’s a top signing. Can bring him off the bench, allows for extra rotation. Really, really pleased. Not to mention the fact he actually knows how to play out wide and he doesn’t cost us a penny, with the option to buy if he impresses. (Loaned from Chelsea)

Arteta – Arteta. Arteta?!?! MIKEL ARTETA!!!!!!!! What a player. So happy with this buy. I rate him pretty highly. I know some people will say “He plays for Everton so he’s not that brilliant”. To put it simply, they’re imbeciles. I’ll just say, I’m really happy with the signing of Arteta. Nice missus as well. (Bought from Everton)

The great thing is, these signings seem to have an average age over around 27/28-ish. The experience they’ll bring to the team is great. I was glad the interlull was here, but now I don’t want to wait over a week to face Swansea! I want them here! Right now! Let’s hope that the few days after the interlull will allow the team time to gel together.

Goodplaya has given his opinions about the moves. Great moves, but do they cover up a bad squad? Gunnerblog has also given his opinion. Top stuff from Gunnerblog throughout the window, always on the money with the news. Nick also gave his thoughts on the new signings in his column earlier today. If you want all the interviews and stuff, then check out CescyFabGooner. They’ll be up there within a day or so of appearing on the Arsenal site. Park Ju young’s interview is already up there!

A little bit of youngster news then, we’re waiting to see whether we can register a few of our foreign players to play in the Academy League.

That’s it then. Phew. What a hectic few days. I’ll probably not post fora few days as I try to get my breath back. In the meantime though, you can check out SavageGoonerDaily for all the latest Arsenal news, updated twice a day! Be sure to follow me on twitter as well @SavageGooner. Trust me, it’s so worth it.

That’s about it then, be sure to let me know what you think of our signings. Are they enough? Would you have signed someone different?

Victoria Concordia Crescit – Victory Comes Through Harmony

Just to confirm, I'm ever so slightly excited about this one.
