Arsenal move for Hazard? Mauro Zarate for £10m? No contact on Cahill?

by on August 17, 2011

There we go then, a 1-0 win in the first leg. If you haven’t already then you can find my match report here. We’ll take a 1-0 lead over to Italy then. Leaving the ground, there was an air of discontent. Given the disruptions to the squad, it wasn’t the worst result, but there were more than a few fans worried about how well we will be able to stand up to the Udinese attack over in Italy. The atmosphere in general was quite positive, especially following Theo’s early goal. The frustration boiled over in the second half when we were struggling to hold possession and properly attack, leading to quite a lot of moaning and quite a few Gooners leaving early. If you haven’t already, then you can check out the highlights here, as well as post-match reaction from Walcott and Ramsey.

The bigger issue could well be the raft of injuries though. Gibbs injured, Djourou injured, Traore injured. It remains to be seen who out of those will or won’t be available for the Liverpool match. I suppose will come it out within the next two days. We know that there’ll be no Gervinho or Alex Song as they both serve three-match bans. Song’s young replacement, Emmanuel Frimpong, wants to make the most of this oppurtunity.

“I’ve been training hard to get into the first team and now the boss has given me my chance to shine”, he said. “There’s always the possiblity when big players leave that you can get into the team and I hope that if I get my chance I will take it and show what I can do”

“I thought Udinese were a very technical team, they played good attacking football and they put us to the test but hopefully when we go to Italy we can win without conceding and go through. We’ve won today and not conceded but to be fair they could have scored a couple of goals. In the second leg hopefully we’ll show them that we are a good team and win the game”.

Samir Nasri has also spoken out about the disrespect he’s received from Arsenal fans, with rumours that he’s having a medical at City this afternoon. Having said that, TalkSPORT and various Italian sources reckon we’re looking at a £10million deal for Mauro Zarate. In other transfer news, the Mail reckon Nasri is set to leave for City in a £23m move. Never saw that one coming. TalkSPORT, like a lot of other sources, reckon we’re looking at a move for Hazard at around £25-26m. One deal that is apparently stalling is a move for an English centre-back, with Ollie Holt, a football journalist reporting that Arsenal haven’t made serious contact regarding Cahill since July and nothing has really happened with Dann.

In other news, Carl Jenkinson has been talking about our improved defence, but we will have to build on our defence with good attacking play if  we really want to be the best. As we all know, RVP is the new captain and, as such, the programme from yesterday were his first ever programme notes. In them, he did the usual of speaking about his immense pride captaining the club. He touted Vieira and Adams as two Arsenal captain that really stood out for him. He also talks about the issue of shared leadership saying, “we’re all captains of our own positions’. Interesting. He goes on to talk about how everyone is captain in a way, because if they have something to say then they say it.

In other news, there’s a report on the reserves’ win over United, as well as a highlights video. Miquel has spoken about how captaining the reserves has improved his all-round game. The Ladies have a match on Thursday at Boreham Wood kicking off at 19:00. Make it if you can, it’s only the last match of the season, a top of the table title decider, the winner taking the inaugural Womens’ Super League title. Nothing important then.

This isn’t bad either, a little advert with RVP speaking about his ‘roots’ in Rotterdam.

That’s it for today then tweeps. Be sure to follow me @SavageGooner of you don’t already. Don’t forget to comment as well. Is Van Persie the right choice of captain? Who do you think we will sign?

Yes,it is a good decision given RVP d captain of our great team,d experience is there on his side and his capable of transforming d team with d bulk of experience he has gathered in a recent time, all i would ask for by the team handler is to beef up the team with two or three experience players for the crop of players already in the team to do well.We fans need trophy,we re tired of trophy-less season.ROBIN VAN PERSIE IS A GOOD CHOICE.
