Cesc saga drawing to a close, a few knocks and where now?

by on August 11, 2011

First things first then, Arsene Wenger will be holding a press conference tomorrow morning at 9am. No doubt about the fact that the Cesc Fabregas saga is reportedly coming to a close, although there is the small matter of the season kickong off on the following day. As we’ve all no doubt heard by now, a bid seems to have been accepted within the last few days or is being accepted worth at least £35m with Fabregas possibly paying an extra £4.5m due to the loyalty bonus clause in his contract. Indeed the BBC reports that the deal is pretty much done, as well as a deal for Samir Nasri to leave.

Arsenal midfielders Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri are both close to finalising moves away from the club.

Fabregas is on the verge of signing for European champions Barcelona for a fee believed to be about £35m.

BBC Sport also understands that Nasri is set to move to Manchester City with the clubs close to agreeing a fee between £22m and £24m.

According to a senior Arsenal source, all the funds generated by Fabregas’s sale will be reinvested in new players.

Talking of reinvestment then, there have been quite a few rumours around with suggestions that a deal has been reached to bring in Mata as soon as Cesc leaves, as well as speculation about Dann, Hazard and Brazilian midfielder Jadson. I have to say, I haven’t seen much of the latter in action, but the Torygraph seems to think we could get him and Dann for £16m. Indeed as I write this, I’m hearing rumours that his people are in London to start discussions, but obviously that can’t really be vereified so I wouldn’t really give it that much attention. Vital Arsenal has been talking about the possibility of bringing in Dann, Hazard and Mata in an interesting article.

As could well be expected, many different views have been expressed as the Fabregas saga finally finishes and I think that my views are probably most similar to those expressed by Gunnerblog.Having said that, Goodplaya makes some interesting points, as always, Nick’s post this morning was pretty good as well in terms of his opinions on the matter. There’s also been talk we’re after some guy. That’s in the Mail though so, you know….

Anyways, the internationals have finished and we saw Arshavin and Ramsey both pick up slight knocks, but neither looked life-threatening thankfully. Having looked over the matches, there’s nothing much to report.

According to Carlos Vela’s agent, there’s the possibility of a loan move until January, while the club are also closing in on a young Luton winger. A few other plugs as well, with Arsenal youth expert (and the man behind YoungGuns) Jamie Sanderson interviewed by Arsenal Report and Goonertalk doing their season preview. Which reminds me, if you haven’t already then be sure to check out my interview with Sam aka 15yearoldgooner from earlier in the week.

That’s it for today then, I’ll be back tomorrow with news from Wenger’s presser and a preview for the Newcastle match. In the mean time, why not follow me on twitter @SavageGooner? Laters.
