Gazidis at the AISA meeting, more on Oxlade-Chamberlain, a move for Cahill?

by on August 9, 2011

So last night, Ivan Gazidis met with the Arsenal Independent Supporters’ Organisation and had a chat about a few things. I wasn’t there, but the editor of the Ashburton Grove blog was and he’s been writing about some of the issues discussed. You can check out the AISA site if you want more details. There were a few interesting issues, with Gazidis hinting that a defender could be very close. There was also the issue of announcing attendances, it shows the mental state of Arsenal fans at the moment when so many people can get worked up about something so simple, but hey-ho.

Onto other news then and, as may be expected, there’s been a lot of reaction about the Oxlade-Chamberlain move, both good and bad. We are the North Bank has the details on the financial side of the deal while Gunnerblog has been talking about the player himself. The young man has been talking about his excitement at joining Arsenal and you can be sure to find his first interview with the club here. There’s also been more sensationalist nonsense by John Cross in the Mirror. For some reason, journos seem to think every single Arsenal fan is a moaner like LeGrove. I found reading the comments a lot more interesting than reading the article itself.

Onto other transfers then, Nicklas Bendtner looks set to leave, but he won’t say where. The bit I liked was him laughing when asked whether it could be Stoke. The rumours of Carlos Vela leaving on loan have also been picking up pace, with Real Sociedad and Lorient touted as possible destinations. The Nasri saga is also going on and on and on… The Guardian reckon City have improved their offer with £22m up front being touted in numerous places. The Metro reckon that Thomas Vermaelen might not make the Newcastle match, so we could go for Gary Cahill. At least with the England match postponed/cancelled then we’ll have more time with him at London Colney to set Jens Lehmann on him and break his mind. One more thing, Juan Mata has apparently been demoted from captain to vice-captain at Valencia. Not really sure what to make of that.

If you didn’t actually hear what Dein said about Wenger last week, then you can listen here. There’s also a compilation of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain on youtube. One other thing. This by gunnerblog. I found it funny.

One more thing. If you don’t already, be sure to follow me on twitter and leave feedback. :)
