FIFA act silly, Mata on his way here? Goodbye to our youngsters?

by on July 27, 2011

Good news! It’s not very trustworthy, but it is good I suppose. The front page of the Spanish paper Marca today says that Juan Mata is on the verge of a move to North London. The red half that is. (Link is in Spanish) Top news no doubt, some people have been saying that they’ve been hearing similar stories with a buyout clause of 15m euros being quoted, others saying that Marca is a load of bollocks. I’m not sure which I agree with. One thing I would say is that Spanish clubs often have buy-out clauses which can only be triggered by other Spanish clubs, i.e. not by us because we’re not Spanish. More light will hopefully be shed on this subject in the coming days. In the mean time, have a read of GoonerTalk’s analysis of Mata as a potential signing, the bit about his wages being £30,000 per week is particularly interesting.

The Mata talk has often been mentioned in connection with the Nasri/Fabregas sagas and speaking of Nasri, the Daily Star reckon that he’ll stay for a season and then leave. What fascinating insight, they’ve guessed that one of the likely outcomes could be a likely outcome. Amazing. (WARNING: That link is to the Daily Star, I’m not responsible for whatever is on their site so if you’re under 18, keep your eyes on the crappy article.) Cesc-wise, some Brazilian reckons that he’ll stay next season. Anybody know this guy? Also, we’ve been linked with someone I’ve never heard of before, good times.

It wouldn’t be Arsenal without a good bit of injury news so here we go. Desperate not to be outdone by Emmanuel Frimpong, Conor Henderson is out for at least six months. Theo has a dicky ankle, but from what I’ve heard it’s not particularly bad. Only thing that worries me is that this isn’t the first time his ankle has played up, let’s hope this isn’t going to be a recurring problem like Cesc’s hamstrings. At least we have Ricky Gervais Yao Kouassi to fill in in the attack. He’s starting well, with Kieran Gibbs talking about Ricky being a right handful in training. Tomas Rosicky, who seems to be enjoying his more central role in pre-season, has talking about we have to learn lessons from last season’s setbacks, like the Carling Cup final. Talking of the Carling Cup final, it was almost certainly the lowlight of Dave’s debut season with the club at centre-back, but former team-mate Kevin Gameiro reckons the French-Polish hybrid can go the distance.

The news doesn’t end there either with reports emerging earlier today through Gunnerblog that Eboue’s move to Galatasaray was falling through because we were demanding a fee around £7m. Seems a bit strange to me, thought £4.5m had already been agreed. Let’s see what happens with that one. There have also been rumblings of youngsters leaving with Henri Lansbury rumoured to be looking at a permanent move to Norwich while questions also remain over the future of Kyle Bartley. Sanchez Watt has also been attracting interest from the lower leagues while Rhys Murphy is apparently joining Middlesbrough on loan. James Shea is also going out on loan to Dagenham and Redbridge for the season.

Even more news, Andrei Arshavin has been talking about the upcoming season, Bendtner Sr. has been talking about the number of offers coming in for Bendtner Jr. and a young Arsenal side lost to Sunderland. Bad times.

Finally, plans to use goal-line technology at the Emirates Cup have been put on hold after FIFA said we can’t. What a load of bollocks. I mean really, it’s not even their competition! It’s ours! On our ground! I would go on even more about it, but I don’t need to because luckily this VitalArsenal article puts the argument across far more eloquently than I ever could.

That’s your lot for today. Don’t complain, this is good value for money seeing as you don’t pay anything. Nick should have a post up sometime tomorrow, maybe he will make more sense than my rambles. Until next time loyal readers. @SavageGooner
