NP Column: There’s nothing going on, except Gervinho scores two

by on July 25, 2011

Good day Gooners! Hope you all had a good weekend. As usual, mine involved a heavily-drunken Friday night, which resulted me having one of the WORST hangovers of my life the following day. I need to cut down on my alcohol intake. Seriously, if my liver becomes any more black and bloated, it’ll end being adopted by Angelina Jolie.

So what’s going on with our beloved football club? Well to tell you the truth, absolutely nothing really. The only new thing is that Xavi has been awfully quiet the past couple of days. Pep mate, you better go check on him.

This is going to be a very short post, because quite frankly, I am bored of talking about the Cesc to Barca stories. I am bored of talking about Samir Nasri being a brat and refusing to sign a contract extension. I am bored of talking about transfer rumours which are either totally ridiculous, or brings false hope to us fans because Arsenal never actually seem to make their interest concrete. I mean, Jagielka for £17million? Where the hell did Everton get that sum from? I’d be happy if Arsenal signed him, but for no more than £7million. A penny over that, and forget it.

You can’t tell me Arsenal are working sleepless nights to bring in their transfer targets, because that’s just a load of bollocks. Arsenal having sleepless nights to bring in Carl Jenkinson and Gervinho?! No no, it just doesn’t happen like that, especially when Gervinho took the longest 48 hours to eventually arrive at the Emirates. I’m not being funny, but Arsenal love to make a pig’s ear out of everything. Don’t be spoon feeding us fans absolute bullshit about working tirelessly behind the scenes to bring in players, when pre-season is almost over, and you have only signed two so far. How comes Manchester United and Liverpool just say who they are looking to sign, and bring them to their club within days of the announced interest. It’s not acceptable really. Still, patience is a virtue and…ahh fuck it, just sign some players please!!

Speaking of Gervinho and Jenkinson, both players got on the score sheet in Saturday’s pre-season 2-1 win over Cologne. Gervinho scored a brace with his first one being a beautiful looping finish over the keeper into an empty net, and Jenkinson showing us he is a potential black-belt with his karate-kick, which resulted in the ball flying over the keeper into the back of his own net. I must say, it was a quality goal! Poor Jenkinson, he looked devastated. Don’t worry Carl, it was only a pre-season match. Just don’t do it when the real season kicks off, unless it is up the right end. Both players look good though, and I am sure you are just as excited as me to see them play when the league kicks off.

That’s it. See, I told you it was going to be a short post. Hey don’t blame me, it’s not my fault Arsenal are still working behind the scenes to bring in our next player. I could give you my predictions for the upcoming season, but I’ll leave that until pre-season is over. Hopefully there will be something worth talking about by Thursday when I next post.

One last thing before I go. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families and friends of the 93 victims who were attacked at a summer youth camp in Norway. It is an absolute tragedy and an utter shame that events like this happen in today’s world.
