Another week down, any difference?

by on July 1, 2011

So we’ve come to the end of the week. At the beginning of it we were all sitting around thinking we could well finish it with a Gervinho, and maybe a tasty Cahill or Samba and even possibly a Baines. Instead, we finish the week knowing that we’ve still just got an Eboue. The rumours abound and with the noises coming out of the Gervinho camp it sounds like every single day is the day he’s going to sign, but we’re still waiting…

That’s not to say we haven’t seen transfer news this week, with Manchester City apparently beating Liverpool as the most likely destination for Gael Clichy, as well as rumoured interest in a bid for Samir Nasri between £15-20 million with the Frenchman on £180,000 per week. Yes, week. Nicklas Bendtner is still looking at the possibility of a move to the Bundesliga. There has also been talk of the tall Dane moving to Bolton in a part-exchange for Cahill, with the England international preferred to the slower Chris Samba and the more expensive Phil Jagielka. Although there has been much speculation about Alex-Oxlade Chamberlain, Nigel Adkins say that Southampton are yet to receive a formal offer for the youngster. With all due respect to the player and the club, I doubt this move is the most important one on the club’s radar at the moment.

With Sunderland flexing their financial muscles, they’ve secured their biggest transfer to date by signing former Arsenal trainee Roarie Deacon while the club announced a few pre-season fixtures for the youngsters. Young winger Héctor Bellerín is a signing we’ve made and he’s spoken about his pride at playing for the club. There’s also been talk from Denilson’s agent cooling off talks of a move to AC Milan. Really? Denilson as a replacement for Pirlo, Ambrosini, Seedorf or Gattusso? Surely this is blasphemy?

Tomas Rosicky has been talking about how the boss has told him to expect to take part in pre-season training. I know that he was never the same after that 18-month lay-off, but he’s seen all kinds of doctors during the summer and has even had his tonsils removed after medical advice in the hope it will stop infections. Sounds a bit strange but if it brings the old Rosicky back, I won’t be complaining. There has also been talk of a 14m euro bid for Andrei Arshavin from Galatasaray and a £10m bid for Abou Diaby turned down. Take that as you wish I suppose.

If you haven’t already, be sure to vote in the poll on the left-hand side of the page! Also, I had a wee interview with the fantastic 15yearoldgooner earlier in the week and you can be sure to read the transcript here. I’d recommend it, he’s a great gooner, has a top class blog and definitely knows what he’s talking about.

That’s it for today folks. @SavageGooner
