Women in football?

by on June 24, 2011

Can you imagine a female manager in men’s football? Hope Powell was linked last year to the Grimsby job. Fancy reading further? Vital Arsenal have it covered. I have to admit, I’d never really thought about it before but why can’t women manage men? Or maybe they don’t ‘understand the game’? What a load of bollocks. There’s also the second article over on Vital Arsenal in the series on FA Cup wins, with our 1936 campaign under the microscope in this article.

There’s precious little coming out of the club at the moment, as would probably be expected with the current club-fan relationship, at least until a few signings. The usual rumours have been doing the rounds on twitter, we have fingers in many pies, moves will start happening next week, etc. I think we’ll start to see movement once we get into July, but the impatience amongst fans at the moment is somewhat frustrating. Or at least I think so anyway.

In transfer news Palermo are interested in Ricky Alvarez who has been linked with quite a few clubs. I’d like to think that we would be able to see off competition from most of the other clubs linked with the Argentine if we were to make a move. There’s also the news that Mark Randall has joined Chesterfield. What a waste of talent he was, arguably more talented than Henri Lansbury but never had the attitude to match. Chesterfield are a good side though, if he puts his head down, we could yet see him in the Premier League one day.

Most of you no doubt know that we’ve apparently rejected a bid from Barcelona for our captain, statistically the best creative midfielder in the top five European leagues, valued by the Spanish side at £7 and a few old M&Ms. Can’t blame the club for rejecting that offer then. Is this news surprising? No. Hence why it’s down here as opposed to up at the top of the post. Former Gunner Nigel Winterburn has also been talking to SkySports about the move saying that we should hold out for at least £40million. Sound advice.

Good news. Here at SavageGoonerTowers we’re always looking for ways to improve your experience so I’d like to unveil a brand new toy. The shiny new Nick Palmer will be a co-writer on the blog starting from next week. He’ll be offering less news and more opinion so be sure to check back regularly!

That’s it for today. I know, boring isn’t it. Let’s hope someone moves somewhere soon.

Until tomorrow. @SavageGooner
