Welcome to the jungle… of wordpress.

by on June 22, 2011

Well, we’ve moved over from our old home and all the work has been done behind the scenes. On a personal note exams are more or less finished now so I can concentrate on providing you all with the blog you’ve surely missed. As far as the off-season has gone not much has happened so far, just the signing of Carl Jenkinson, the versatile young defender from Charlton Athletic. On a note of mere triviality, Cedric Evina has been left Oldham Athletic and is set to join up with Charlton. Wouldn’t be nice if he replaced Jenkinson there, kind of a part-exchange. Nice unless you’re Oldham that is.

The reason I’ve started my first ever post at WordPress with such utter drivel is because there’s not very much going on with regards to Arsenal news. Alsiher Usmanov has increased both his stake in the club and the size of his head. I know, its massive isn’t it. There’s this utter drivel as well. How can he be less than what they paid for Sanchez? Especially considering the fees we’ve seen for Henderson and Jones. I mean who the hell could come up with something like… Oh wait, we know who because we’ve heard it all before. In all honesty, the more they use their patented bull-sh*t machine the more likely our club is to tell them to piss off so it’s not annoying me as much this year.

Onto interesting news then, the last six months have been nothing short of magical for young Japanese winger Ryo Miyaichi, having gone from high-school footballer to a leading light as one of Arsene Wenger ‘Young Guns’. He has impressed fans and pundits alike during his season long spell in the Eredivisie with Feyenoord and has attracted attention from clubs all across Europe with “two Bundesliga clubs and a Belgian side [most probably Anderlecht]” looking at him. He looks unlikely to win a work permit this summer and I’m sure that there will be no end of clubs ready to bid for his services as an on loan player next season, although a return to Feyenoord is in doubt at this stage.

Speculation has also mounted for much of the summer about a move for Blackburn defender Chris Samba to shore up the backline against teams with a more physical approach. However, Blackburn boss Steve Kean will no doubt want to hang on to Chris Samba after already losing Phil Jones to Manchester United and he has said as much to SkySports. We’ve also been linked with Peter Odemwingie over the summer to bolster our front-line. The Nigerian scored a respectable 15 goals in his debut Premier League season, but the sounds coming out of the Hawthorns suggest Arsenal will have to stump up the cash if they want him.

Carlos Vela’s agent has also been out and about talking about his clients future. Vela is a player who divides opinion amongst Arsenal fans, while the talent is obviously there questions remain about whether he has the attitude and work ethic to survive in the Premier League. He scored some important goals for West Brom at his time there and apparently sorted his ‘playboy attitude’. For the record, I would much rather see him given another chance if he really has improved his work ethic to go along with his finishing.

There’s also been talk about Nicklas Bendtner leaving to the Bundesliga with Borussia Dortmund believed to be interested. A fee of £12m has been bandied around in the press, but chances are we’ll see some sort of sell-on clause come into play here given his young age. He certainly hasn’t been helped at the club by the switch to the 4-3-3 and his frustration at not playing more often is understandable given that he’s about as suited to playing on the wing as I am to wearing high heels. Having said that, strikers of Van Persie’s quality and form were hard to come by during the second half of last season and, taking that into account I certainly know who I would want up front.

That’s all the useful news for today I suppose, here’s Theirry Henry getting sent off for nothing in the MLS. I have to say that, for all the money in that league which the Americans have developed quite well, the standard of officiating is quite poor. A year or two ago I saw a pass-back from 18 yards out not awarded because the ‘keeper ‘touched the ball’.

Finally, for all the history buffs out there, here’s a profile of Peter Storey written on that most brilliant of sites

That’s all for today folks, I hope you’ve all enjoyed reading on WordPress as much as I’ve enjoyed writing on it. @SavageGooner
